Additional FTP Accounts for Clients
We’ve always offered SFTP access to clients for updating their WordPress sites. But due to the way our system is configured, we could only provide each account with one login.
I’m happy to announce that we have now enabled the ability for clients to create additional FTP users, which can be limited to a specific home directory within an account. If you want to provide a web designer with access to just one of your sites, or hand out FTP accounts to clients you are hosting, this will make it easy to do so.
These user-created FTP accounts will access our system via FTPS, which is configured to force encryption of both the login details and actual transfers. If you’re using Filezilla, the configuration looks like this:
Note that the protocol is FTP, and encryption method is “Require explicit FTP over TLS.” Usernames created for FTPS will be appended with @yourmaindomain to avoid conflicts in the system.
Setting up new accounts is an easy, self-service process. In our advanced control panel, hit the new “FTP Accounts” link:
Then you’ll have a few fields to fill out for creating the new account:
The Directory field will define the user’s home directory (where they land when initially logging in via FTPS). Users are able to proceed down into sub-directories, but cannot back out of their home directory into the root of your account.
You can also manage and remove existing users from the FTP Accounts screen.
I hope this new feature proves helpful for many of our clients. If you have any questions, get in touch.
