WordPress 4.0.1 Released – Critical Security Update for Older Versions
WordPress 4.0.1 was released today. This is an important update, containing several security tweaks/fixes for 4.0.
Also, updates were released for WP 3.9.2, 3.8.4, and 3.7.4. These older versions are receiving a critical security fix.
Automatic Updates
For those of you using the built-in WordPress automatic updates, as minor upgrades (0.0.1), these will be automatically applied.
If you are allowing Lightning Base to update your installs, these updates are rolling out starting a short time ago and through tonight. They will be applied to anyone enabling core updates – whether they have selected minor or all available core upgrades. As usual, a local backup will be taken for immediate rollback if there are any problems, but it’s unlikely there will be a problem with a minor update like this.
Manual Updates
If you do not have automatic updates enabled (not sure? Please ask!), then I strongly encourage you to immediately login to your WP site, and click the “Updates” menu icon in the top-left. Update the WordPress core and you will be protected from these security problems. Again, issues with the update should be extremely uncommon, I would not hesitate to update sites right away. If you do have any issues, we always have our nightly backups available for restore.
